Candidate bios:

Ivan and his family members have an absolute fascination with and love of books and libraries. From a young age, Ivan was a regular patron of the Salmon Arm branch of Okanagan Regional Library (ORL). Ivan attended Simon Fraser University where he obtained a degree in Communication before entering a career in information technology and communication. In 2002, Ivan and his family moved back to Salmon Arm to be near extended family. Ivan has worked in a variety of jobs since his return to Salmon Arm, including as a library clerk for Okanagan College. Ivan was first elected to Salmon Arm city council during the Nov. 2005 municipal election, and re-elected in Nov. 2008.  He became Salmon Arm's primary representative on the ORL in Jan.
2007. Ivan very much enjoys his participation in the governance of ORL, and the opportunity to contribute to the BCLTA Board

Brian Liberman Born in Montreal, Quebec and lived in New York, Toronto, Vancouver and finally Kitimat for the past 36 years. My initial involvement with the Kitimat Public Library came when I was chair of the Kitimat Terrace District Labour Council, in the mid 80’s. Most of my working career was spent as a shift millwright fixing industrial equipment. I was also active in Worker Advocacy representing those having difficulty with the WCB and the Canada Disability Pension Plan. I have recently retired and now live between Kitimat and the Comox Valley.
I have since spent many years as a Trustee and sat on many of the Board’s Committees. I have come to see libraries as a treasure house in our local communities. Libraries offer opportunities for early literacy and adult development. They are places for recreation and learning giving opportunity in the form of reading and writers clubs along with other forms of media and interaction. Libraries are central in developing good citizenship and fostering acceptance and understanding of the “Canadian” way of life. It is to foster these values and services that I am willing to serve on the Provincial Board of Trustees.

Paul was welcomed as a Trustee of the West Vancouver Memorial Library in 2004, after a successful business career.
One of his first tasks was to chair the committee given the assignment of developing a Strategic Plan for the Library. This 2006-2010 Strategic Plan, approved by the Trustees in 2005, has been the guiding document in the
continuing excellence of one of the most used and best funded libraries in this province.
Over the ensuing years, Paul has participated in a variety of projects and committees, both for the Library and other District of West Vancouver committees and working groups. He also was the Chair of the West
Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation.
Paul received the Super Trustee Award of the BCLTA in April 2008.
He is presently serving as Chair of the board of Trustees of the West Vancouver Memorial Library in his second year of a 2 year mandate.
Paul is interested in joining the board of the BCLTA because "I have seen first hand the importance of our libraries in the development of a vibrant, educated society. The BCLTA plays an important role in advancing this key position of libraries in our communities."

As a life long lover and user of libraries and information, Michelle is a strong believer in the role that libraries play in creating social capital within communities and improving the quality and outcomes of people’s lives. She is a keen promoter of greater collaboration between government, communities and libraries to better serve the needs of citizens.
Michelle is an avid participant in her community. In addition to serving as a trustee, Planning Committee Chair, and Facilities Steering Committee Chair for the Greater Victoria Public Library, Michelle has also served as president of the board of directors for the Greater Victoria Child and Family Counselling Association; as a member of the Vancouver Island Ethno-cultural Advisory Committee and the Vancouver Island Regional Transformation Reference Group for the Ministry of Children and Family Development; and as the library board representative on the City of Victoria Learning City committee.
Michelle holds a Bachelor’s degree in Classics and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. She grew up in Vancouver and has been living in Victoria since 1995. For many years Michelle has consutled to government in a variety of capacities and is currently the Director of Evaluation and Strategic Directions for the Office of the Representative for Children and Youth. Michelle is extremely passionate about libraries and feels that with her experience in strategic planning, policy development, and evaluation she can contribute positively to the work of the BCLTA. She thanks you for this opportunity to consider her nomination to sit on the BCLTA.
